If all goes well with his medical today then Blackburn winger David Bentley will become the first signing of Spurs’ post-Robbie Keane era.
But how much do you know about one of England’s brightest young talents?
1) David Michael Bentley was born on 27 August 1984 in Peterborough, England. He first caught the eye of football scouts while playing as a striker for Wormley Football Club in Hertfordshire, and eventually joined Arsenal’s academy as a 13-year-old.
2) He was remoulded into a right-sided midfielder, and displayed such prodigious talent that Arsene Wenger invited him to train with the first team squad aged just 16. With typical eloquence, the manager described Bentley as “top, top, top”.
3) He made his Arsenal debut in January 2003, coming on as a substitute in the Third Round FA Cup tie against Oxford, and scored his only goal for the club in the same competition a year later – an audacious lob against Middlesbrough that drew breathless comparisons with Gunners legend Dennis Bergkamp.
